Training Kit on Behaviour Modification for People with Special Needs
The subject of behaviour modification is important for teachers, specialists, and parents, with the aim of changing the overt behaviour exhibited by people with special needs in various situations, by giving them the means that enable them to control this behaviour in a systematic way.
Behaviour
Behaviour is a state of interaction between a living organism and its surroundings (environment), and it is mostly learned (acquired) behaviour, achieved through observation, education, and training, and we learn both simple and complex behaviours. Whenever this behaviour is allowed to be functionally disciplined and acceptable, this learning becomes positive, and through its continuous repetition we turn it into programmed behaviour, which soon turns into a "behavioural habit" that fulfils its purpose with ease, facility, and automaticity.
Characteristics of Behaviour Modification
Focusing on overt behaviour that is observable and measurable
Behaviour is a problem, not a symptom of a problem
Problem behaviour is learned and acquired behaviour
It does not arise from a vacuum
