Women and Their Position in Islam

  • Arabic

Description

This presentation examines the issue of women from several angles, starting with the definition of the word "woman" in language and in terminology, then the views of philosophy, sociology and psychology on her nature and role, and finally her position in Islam.

After women suffered in pre-Islamic times from the loss of their basic rights, including the right to life itself, Islam established a complete system of rights covering education, work, financial independence and equality with men. It affirmed that doing justice to women was among the most important aims of the Holy Quran, and it set out the etiquette of dealing with them within the family and society.

Objectives

  • Define the concept of woman in language and terminology, and analyze how philosophy, sociology and psychology view her nature and role in society.
  • Clarify the position of women in Islam and compare it with their wasted status in pre-Islamic times.
  • Explain women's legal rights relating to education, work, independent financial standing and building a family.
  • Discuss equality between women and men from the perspective of Islamic law, based on documented scientific and legal evidence.
  • Apply proper Islamic etiquette in dealing with Muslim women within the family and the surrounding society.
