Security awareness is one of the most important means that provides the security apparatus with the information needed to prevent a crime from occurring or to apprehend its perpetrators if it occurs. A lack of attention to it deprives the security apparatus of one of the most important means that help in detecting crimes, and consequently leads to failure to reach the criminals, which results in an increase in crimes recorded against unknown persons, and in turn affects the capability and efficiency of the security apparatus.

Causes of Declining Security Awareness:

Security awareness is a precise outcome expressing scientific knowledge, and a reflection of practical experience, but its effectiveness depends on the extent to which the security officer is influenced by the circumstances of life around him, and how well he receives and engages with them.

The role of the security officer is to convey the event and all phenomena undermining security to the responsible authorities with full facts and details, avoiding downplaying the scale of the security event, and not presenting it to security or political leadership as less significant than it truly is, as a form of reassurance to them or to highlight the capability of those apparatuses in controlling such events.
