Description

Training kit on situational leadership

Situational leadership is defined as the management of constant readiness to face a situation and deal with it, to deal with its surprises, to deal quickly with these surprises, and to deal quickly with the variables and developments that arise in the course of events.

Dialogue and its importance for the situational leader

A successful leader works to strengthen dialogue in order to inspire, support, discover and lead subordinates. Through the habit of dialogue, every leader can create a shared mindset based on a great deal, because it allows for creative thinking, innovation and continuous self improvement.

Research has shown that leadership possessing conversational skills enjoys greater acceptance. Leaders want to improve the quality of dialogue at work, as they see the need and see the benefits of conversation, but the obstacle to change that cannot be overcome is always "culture". Employee expectations and the external environment may have changed, but old management practices and mindsets still exist, like echoes from a bygone era.

To avoid a breakdown in dialogue, here is some information you should follow:

  • Do not enter a conversation or dialogue that you will not be able to complete to the end.

  • You must not show that you do not care about the other party in the conversation, nor should you appear to prefer doing something else, such as wandering around the room, checking your phone every couple of seconds, and not staying away from the television.

  • You must not show boredom or distracted body language.

  • Do not interrupt the other party in the conversation.

  • If you are waiting for your turn to speak, be very careful to remain silent.

  • Give the other party space to formulate their thoughts.
