Description

Training Kit on Measuring Life Skills

Evidence indicates that life skills enable children and young people to achieve school goals, gain work experience and personal growth, and enable them to become self-reliant citizens. Researchers believe that life skills are addressable and can be developed over the course of an individual's life.

The Skill of Creativity:

Creativity is the ability to generate new and useful ideas at the same time. Fluency refers to the repetition of creative ideas, and innovation is unfamiliar with these ideas. Flexibility encompasses a number of areas of inquiry or fields that are raised through these ideas. The level of detail at which ideas are developed is prepared.

Developing Creativity Skills in Children and Young People:

Considering all cognitive and non-cognitive abilities, creativity is considered one of the least flexible skills. Nevertheless, preparing the social-psychological environment from the outset is necessary to bring forth the creative potential of any individual, which may bear fruit fully. Despite this, each probable individual has a certain amount of creative potential only at birth, along with the necessary physical, mental, behavioural and rational factors, and it is possible for the environmental conditions of individuals to become more creative on their own.

The Skill of Critical Thinking:

The life skills and citizenship education framework defines critical thinking as the ability to think purposefully and determine how to implement this life skill when the learner learns to think about matters of thought.

Developing Critical Thinking Skills in Children and Young People:

Some scholars believe that critical thinking is one of the most advanced life skills, and in the past it was associated with learning at a later stage by adolescents and adults. Bloom's taxonomy of learning objectives (1956) and the revised taxonomy by Anderson et al. (2001) suggest that children should first be taught to remember, then understand and apply knowledge, then analyse, and finally, think critically and evaluate knowledge.

The Skill of Problem Solving:

The skill of problem solving has been defined in multiple ways. The basic description of the problem-solving skill is "the ability to think through the steps that lead from a given situation to the desired goal".

Developing Problem-Solving Skills in Children:

The development of problem-solving skills in the early years of life has been established, as evidence of early development was found through two groups of children aged between 6 and 13 months (and their mothers, in the United States of America, Landry et al.), where the treatment group was exposed to learning "responsive parenting", including home visits, to develop parents' ability to solve problems and parents' self-assessment using video clips.
