There is no doubt that dialogue has become an important necessity, for human communication and cooperation, for achieving peace, security and civilisational progress, and for effective leadership of human resources, especially in the field of dialogue between the superior and subordinates.
For this reason, Islamic thought called for dialogue, and urged building bridges with all of creation, in order to achieve the universality of Islamic thought in various cultural and scientific fields, and it set out features for this dialogue within Islamic thought, the most important of which are the following:
Dialogue in Islam is based on wisdom, kindness and gentleness, and on guaranteeing the freedom that allows for difference without hostility, rancour or hatred.
Dialogue in Islamic thought and in the Islamic heritage acquires a meaning denoting values and principles that represent an essential part of Islamic culture and civilisation.
Calling for dialogue, engaging with the other and arguing with them in the best manner, is a Qur'anic call and an established religious duty; God Almighty says: ("Say: O People of the Scripture, come to a word that is equitable between us and you, that we will not worship except God, and not associate anything with Him, and not take one another as lords besides God. But if they turn away, then say: Bear witness that we are Muslims.") (Aal 'Imran, verse 64).
It has, since its inception, encouraged dialogue and coexistence among all of creation, whether great or small, Arab or non-Arab, leader or head of a household, since everyone placed in charge of others is bound to apply the principle of dialogue.
It can be considered the means or the path to reaching the truth and all that life entails, and the means is not separate from the end, in that the two complete one another, or lead to the targeted result.
