Investing in Talent Training Kit
A kit on investing in talent at the level of the family, school and organisations, covering why it matters, how to identify gifted individuals, and models for nurturing talent.
Attention to the counselling needs of gifted and talented students began more than three decades later than attention to their educational or learning needs, and perhaps the findings reached by Terman and his colleagues regarding the personal and psychological characteristics of his sample's members had the greatest effect in diverting the attention of educators, researchers, and parents for a period of time away from the importance of counselling services for these students.
Naturally, we find that gifted children have characteristics that distinguish them from other normal children, and these characteristics have received the attention of researchers, scholars, and specialists in education and psychology. These characteristics are considered among the most important indicators of the presence of giftedness, especially early in the gifted child's life. These characteristics help us identify the gifted child from other children, discover them, and develop appropriate programmes for their care.
The gifted child enjoys better physical ability than the normal child.
The gifted child's superiority to a high degree in the fields of reading, use of language, science, literature, and the arts.
The multiplicity and diversity of the gifted child's interests, such as enjoyment of reading, and good choice of books when reading.
Many distinctive things, the development of many kinds of hobbies, and gaining information from games more than all materialistic children.
A lack of tendency to boast or exaggerate the information they have.
Taller and heavier, and they enjoy sound breathing capacity and a good, balanced nutritional state.
Abundant normal output among gifted children, in addition to self confidence.
The art of leadership and heightened sensitivity towards others' acceptance of them.
The desire for excellence and strength of character.
Psychological counsellors, kindergarten teachers, and those interested in supporting gifted children.
